SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) - Detectives in Salt Lake City are requesting help from the public to identify a groping suspect who may have been injured in an attack on a jogger near Liberty Park.
The incident happened on the morning of Friday Nov. 10 in the area of 1700 South 500 East.
According to Salt Lake City Police Detective Greg Wilking, an adult male grabbed a female victim who then fought back.
“Apparently she carries with her a small knife, she had that in her hand ready to deploy,” Wilking said.
Police believe the victim may have been able to stab the suspect several times in the assault.
The victim last reported seeing the suspect run in the direction of a bus stop near Liberty Park.
Wilking said officers have checked local hospitals for a person arriving with stab wounds.
Police have the knife and are looking for DNA from blood on the blade. Police say the woman carries the small knife while jogging in case she is attacked.
“It’s pretty extreme, but in this case, it worked to her advantage … she was prepared and on top of it, she fought back,” Wilking said.
Police ask anyone who has information about the attack to call 801-799-3000.
