(KUTV) – Hannah Shen knew something big had visited her yard when she found large animal droppings.
That was last week, but Sunday night she found three dead animals, as well.
“The poo, the dog, and the cat, I got worried,” Shen said.
When Provo animal control officers inspected the mauled animals, they told Shen it was likely the work of a cougar.
“One of the great things about Provo is we share wildlife habitat, and we benefit from that, but unfortunately some of that wildlife finds its way into the city,” Provo Police Detective Nick Dupaix told 2News.
Provo Police report several people have reported seeing a cougar in the last few weeks. The most recent report was on Foothill Drive near the entrance to Rock Canyon.
“Usually we don’t have many cougar sightings because they are nocturnal predators,” Dupaix said.
The dead dog, cat, and raccoon in Shen’s yard are the only reported animal deaths from the period of reported cougar sightings.
Provo Police ask anyone who sees a cougar to call Provo dispatch at 801-852-6210.
