SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Looking forward to 2021? No need to answer, it's a rhetorical question.

Here are five titles that caught my eye.

Cobra Kai: Season 3

Netflix has just announced that they'll be giving us the third season of "The Karate Kid" revival "Cobra Kai" on January 1st. The first season kicked off in 2018, but it wasn't until it came to Netflix in 2020 that the series went from a critical darling to a cultural phenomenon. (Avail, 1/1/21)

Pieces of a Woman

Vanessa Kirby stars in "Pieces of a Woman," a drama that finds a couple devastated in the wake of a mishandled home birth. The film premiered in September at the 77th Venice International Film Festival where Kirby won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. Netflix is giving the film a massive push going into award season. Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer

"Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer" uses first-person interviews, archival footage and re-enactments to tell the story of Richard Ramirez. A man who terrorized Los Angeles and then San Francisco throughout 1984 and 1985. He killed at least 13 people. (Avail. 1/13/21)

Outside the Wire

"Outside the Wire" is a sci-fi action film starring Anthony Mackie as an android officer who works with a drone pilot (Damson Idris) to locate a doomsday device. Feels a little generic, but Mackie's presence makes it appealing. (Avail. 1/15/21)

A Monster Calls (2016)

Directed by J. A. Bayona ("Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom"), "A Monster Calls" is fantasy about a young woman with cancer and the trauma the situation brings to her 13-year-old son Conor. One night Conor is visited by a talking tree who promises him that he will return to tell him three stories. These stories help Conor to understand and work through his grief and anger. The film mixes live action scenes with animated sequences. It's a heart wrenching film that is also incredibly beautiful. (1/16/21)
