Here's what's coming to Netflix in November 2020

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — It's just about time to swap out the cobwebs for the dried corn on the cob or fairy lights if you, like Netflix who have Christmas titles popping up as early as November 4th, want to get an early jump on December's holidays.

Here's Netflix's hype reel for November:

Here's what caught my eye:

Easy A

Olive (Emma Stone) is a non-descript high school student who finds her life mirroring that of character Hester Prynne's in the novel "The Scarlet Letter." It would seem that being notorious isn't exactly the worst thing a girl can be. "Easy A" is a sharp comedy featuring a fantastic performance from Stone. I wish the adults characters were a little more credible, but the rest is top shelf writing. (Avail. 11/1/20)

Love and Anarchy

"Love and Anarchy" is a Swedish series centered on Sofie (Ida Engvoll), a young woman, who is asked to modernize an old publishing house and the flirtatious relationship she develops with Max (Björn Mosten) the publisher's young IT tech. There's a silliness on the surface, but its quite clear that there is also weighty possibilities to explore. (Avail. 11/4/20)

Paranormal

"Paranormal" is an Egyptian television series set in 1960. It follows Refaat Ismail (Ahmed Amin), a hematologist and paranormal skeptic, who finds his life turned upside down when he begins to witness a series of supernatural events. I love the dark, almost playful nature of the trailer that promises familiar scares set against an unfamiliar backdrop. (Avail. 11/5/20)

The Liberator

I remember watching Ralph Bakshi's animated film "Wizards" in my early teens. Bakshi used all sorts of animating tricks, the rotoscoping (animators essentially trace over motion picture footage frame by frame to create an animated version of the moving images) World War II footage was incredibly interesting to me. "The Liberator," a film that details the “Operation Avalanche” invasion of Italy during WWII, appears to use a similar, albeit more modern, approach. I'm intrigued. (Avail. 11/11/20)

The Crown: Season 4

I'm something of an Anglophile when it comes to art, theater and music, but I've never understood the obsession that the British have with royalty. However, the fourth season of "The Crown" covers 1977-1990, a period I'm overly familiar with. As a young boy I watched a lot of broadcast news and Princess Diana made her share of appearances. I was only 5 years old, but I remember the grand celebration that was the Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. She was no one from nowhere and somehow she became the most famous woman in the world. (Avail. 11/15/20)
