Two children are in the hospital fighting for their lives after a car crashed into the Jordan River on Saturday night.
UPDATE (August 10, 5:30 p.m.) — One of the two children injured in this crash has died from their injuries, SLCPD announced on Monday.
"Our hearts go out to the family and we mourn with you," police stated.
(Original report continues) — Five people were inside when police say the 20-year-old driver went too fast around a turn near West Indiana Avenue at approximately 11 p.m., according to Sgt. Andrew Cluff with the Salt Lake City Police Department.
She lost control and the vehicle rolled into the water, landing upside down.
The driver and two teenage passengers got out, but two children, ages 2 and 15, were trapped inside.
Police had to rescue them.
Both children were admitted to Primary Children's Hospital in extremely critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
