A Utah man accused of sexually abusing young girls in the back of a church van is now facing criminal charges.

Juan Ubaldo Guerra, 56, was charged in the Fifth District Court in Washington County with four counts of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, court documents state.

In August, a girl and a woman told a family member that when they were younger they had been molested by Guerra.

During an interview with authorities, the victims accused Guerra of touching their private parts and making them touch his while traveling to church in a church-issued van.

Court documents state this happened several times in the back of the van where "none of the other passengers would see."

The girl said Guerra threatened that he would do the same thing to her sibling if she told anyone. The woman said she didn't say anything because she also thought she was protecting her sibling.

Authorities tried to contact Guerra but were met by his attorney.

Charges were officially filed against Guerra on Friday, Nov. 20.

Individuals charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
