Sheriff: Man kills other person at Utah Halloween party before being stabbed

A Utah man, who was shot and killed at a Halloween party, was attacked by another man, who was also killed that same night, according to the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives believe 22-year-old Jon Reed Jr. went to the Halloween party on Nov. 1 near 1250 W. 850 N. in Roosevelt and shot 23-year-old Tyrell Sowsonicut. The motive is unknown.

Witnesses told detectives that other party-goers stepped in after the shooting. During the altercation, Reed was stabbed. Investigators are looking into the possibility that Reed's death may have been the result of self-defense.

Authorities do not believe the public is in danger. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the double homicide is asked to contact the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office, the Bureau of Indian Affairs police or the FBI.
