The Fortaleza Brazil Temple was dedicated in three sessions on Sunday.
Elder Ulisses Soares, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, conducted the dedication with members of the Church in Brazil. It was also broadcast to members throughout the temple district.
Soares expressed his gratitude to the First Presidency for assigning him to dedicate the Fortaleza Brazil Temple. He was quoted as saying in a news release:
They could have sent any other apostle, but they gave me the opportunity. It means a lot. It is my own country, my own language and my own people.
The first Church apostle from Brazil continued, “It is something that touches my heart profoundly because I see the hand of the Lord blessing our country.”
The news release stated that the late President Thomas S. Monson first announced the temple in October 2009. On November 11, 2011, ground broke on the temple in Avenida Santos Dumont in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil.
