To help people cope with the loss of a loved one to COVID-19, or for those who have survived the virus, the University of Utah is offering free support groups.

"Maybe some people have some tips to help them with that isolation, depression, fatigue," said Heather Smith a licensed clinical social worker on U of U Health's Palliative Care Team.

There will be two different support groups: One for those who've lost a loved on to the virus, and one for those who are in recovery. Groups for Spanish speakers will also be formed.

All meetings will be held online over Zoom, with the hope that getting people talking about their struggles can be a form of support.

The COVID recovery group met Tuesday night for the first time, while the grief group starts meetings next week. Attendance will be limited to about eight people per group, but the U said it will allow as many groups as are needed.
