Pole Creek Fire grows to 54,000 acres

UDPATE: The Pole Creek Fire has grown to 54,000 acres, according to fire officials on scene.

The Bald Mountain Fire that is burning close to the Pole Creek Fire. It has reached 14,500 acres and is 0 percent contained.

(KUTV) -- The Pole Creek Fire has exploded to 22,000 acres, according to fire officials at the scene.

It is two percent contained and 1,500 people have been evacuated.

So far, officials report there has been no known structure loss as a result of the fire.

Salem Hills High School has been turned into an evacuation center.

US 6 was closed due to the flames, but it has been reopened, according to Utah Highway Patrol dispatch.

Highway 89 from US 6 to just north Indianola remains closed.

A number of firefighters from Salt Lake City, Draper, West Valley and Unified Fire are helping battle the flames in Utah County.

“Hopefully we will be able to take some of the pressure off of the firefighters that are already working hard on this fire," Captain Matt Taylor of Salt Lake City Fire said in a press release.
