Her husband Jason went to wake her for church and found her unresponsive, the AP reports.

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) -- Laurie Holt, the mother of Josh Holt, who was captured and held prisoner in Venezuela for years, has died, according to her Facebook page.

“We are devastated to announce the tragic passing of our sweet Mama Bear Laurie Holt this morning," the Facebook post says. "She had a gigantic heart and we will miss her dearly. We ask for privacy as we mourn her passing and will provide more details on funeral arrangements as soon as possible.”

Her cause of death was not provided with family.

Her son, Josh Holt posted on Facebook:

"I love you so much mommy, you will be missed more than you know!!!!"

Laurie Holt's son, Josh Holt, made national headlines after being locked in a Caracas jail alongside some of the country's most-hardened criminals — and President Nicolas Maduro's top opponents — for what the U.S. government argued were bogus charges of stockpiling weapons.

The Utah parents had been through the emotional rollercoaster of believing their son would be released only to watch mediation efforts unravel at the last minute on at least three occasions.

Holt was finally returned to his U.S. family in May last year.

Josh's wife Thamy posted the following, in Spanish, on her Facebook page:

Later on Sunday, former representative Mia Love created a GoFundMe page to help support the Holt family with funeral expenses.
