A Wellington City Police officer shot at an unidentified male on Tuesday evening, killing him, according to the Carbon County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office did not immediately provide more information about the shooting or the events that led up to it, except to say that the officer involved was unharmed.
The shooting reportedly occurred at 7 p.m. An address was not initially provided by the sheriff's office.
A multi-agency team led by the Carbon County Sheriff's Office and including Price City police, the Emery County Sheriff's Office, and the Carbon County Attorney's Office, will investigate the incident.
The officer involved was placed on paid administrative leave, in accordance with city policy.
"More details will be given as the investigation continues," the sheriff's office stated in a Facebook post.
Officers will conduct a press conference Wednesday at 11 a.m. to provide more information, said sheriff's office Public Information Officer Whitney Coonrod.
