A man is fighting for his life after being stabbed near a Latter-day Saint church in Midvale overnight, according to the Unified Police Department (UPD).
At approximately 1:38 a.m., police responded to reports of a stabbing near 174 La Salle Drive.
Three men were walking down the street when they were jumped by a group of five to six men.
One men was stabbed in the back with an unknown object. The two other men were punched and kicked, UPD reported.
The stabbing victim was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition. The man was awake and talking, but officials were worried a lung may have been punctured.
The suspects took the mens' backpack, cellphones and wallets. All three men described their attackers as Latino men, according to UPD.
Police say there is no indication that the men knew their attackers or that this is a gang-related incident.
