A boy in Moab got a special gift from a police officer year this.

Officer Rick Allred won a brand new BMX bicycle, donated by Poison Spider Bicycles, at the Sheriff's Christmas Food Drive/Raffle this year.

After talking with his wife, they decided to give the bike to a local child in need through the Moab Valley Multicultural Center/Centro Multicultural, according to a Facebook post by the Grand County Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday, a mother and her 7-year-old son met with the officers for the surprise.

"As they approached us and he saw MCPD Officer Allred and saw the bike... "the police department posted on Facebook.

...His face exploded in utter joy. Then he hesitated, looked at the adults and humbly asked if it was really for him.

After a few minutes of shock, the boy hopped on the bike and happily rode it around.

His mother expressed her gratitude to the officers and explained she was only able to give the boy one small toy for Christmas.

"Seeing a child's face light up in delight at Christmas was the real gift of the day," the department wrote. "Thank you Officer Allred and thank you Grand County for all of your donations."

You helped us to not only feed the hungry this holiday but also make Christmas this year extra special for this family. We appreciate you!
