Moped driver hospitalized after sedan runs red light, causes crash

A man in his 50s is in critical condition after a driver in a Subaru ran a red light and the two vehicles collided. (Dario Jokic, KUTV)

A man riding a moped was in critical condition after officials said another driver ran a red light and the two vehicles collided.

The crash happened Sunday morning at the intersection of Highland Drive and Murray Holladay Road in Holladay.

Sgt. Melody Cutler with Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake said the moped rider was a man in his 50s.

Police the man was heading westbound on Murray Holladay Road. The other driver was heading northbound in a Subaru on Highland Drive.

Witnesses said the Subaru went through the red light, causing the moped with the green light to T-bone the sedan.

The man was transported to the hospital where he was upgraded to critical condition. Information about the nature of his injuries was not released.

Officials said he was not wearing a helmet.

Traffic through the parts of the intersection was blocked as crews worked to determine exactly what happened.
