Update: 5-year-old still in critical condition, police have hit-and-run suspect's pickup

(UPDATE 2/14/20 4:06 p.m.) -- The 5-year-old involved in a hit-and-run crash is still in critical condition, however, the child has woken up a few times, a good sign according to police.

Sgt. Melody Gray with the Unified Police Department says they do have the pickup truck believed to be involved in the incident but are still looking for the suspect. Police know who the truck's owner is and hope he turns himself in.

Police are now doing forensic testing on the truck.

(KUTV) -- A driver who ran over a 5-year-old child on a street in Kearns on Thursday evening is now sought by police.

The driver left the scene after hitting the child, who is in "extremely critical" condition at an area hospital, said Sgt. Melody Gray of the Unified Police Department.

The child was struck near 5023 W. Longmore Drive.

The vehicle is described as a light-colored, older model pickup truck with different colored doors and side panels.

Anyone with information about this incident, or who may have surveillance video, should contact Unified Police at 801-743-7000.

Gray said police would not provide any more updates Thursday night unless a suspect is arrested.
