(KUTV) — A public viewing is scheduled for tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. for slain officer, Joseph Shinners, killed in the line of duty.
Shinners, with the Provo Police Department, was shot and killed after responding to call at a retail store in Orem, Utah. After a suspect was located a shooting ensued. Shinners was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
A 40-year-old man is in police custody, suspected of killing Shinners.
The public viewing is scheduled at an LDS church located at 400 North, 400 East in Springville. Those in the law enforcement community are offered entry at 5 p.m.
Shinners funeral is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m at Utah Valley University's UCCU Events Center at 800 W., University Parkway in Orem. A guided funeral procession will head from Insterstate 15 through Provo City and then into Springville to the interment site at Evergreen Cemetery. According to police, parking at the small cemetery is constricted and carpooling is encouraged.
A GoFundMe memorial fund has been arranged to help his wife and 20-month-old son.
