A St. George man is facing eight felonies after police say he repeatedly raped and sodomized a 10-year-old girl -- telling her he would hurt her family if she ever told anyone.

According to a probable cause (PC) statement from the St. George Police Office, 31-year-old Melvin Guerra-Paniagua knew the girl's mother and, unbeknownst to her, he would come over while she was at work to sexually abuse the girl.

The PC statement graphically details multiple rapes, all of which Guerra-Paniagua denies, however, police say he refused to call the girl a "liar."

The girl alerted police to the rapes two years after they happened.

Guerra-Paniagua is facing the following charges:

  • Rape of a child, a first-degree felony
  • Three counts of sodomy on a child, all first-degree felonies
  • Four counts of sex abuse of a child, all second-degree felonies

Guerra-Paniagua's bond is set at $140,000.
