A semi truck driver was arrested Sunday after child pornography was allegedly discovered on his phone by a tow truck driver after a crash.

John W. Ellsworth, a 60-year-old commercial truck driver from Indiana, was arrested Sunday for three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Ellsworth reportedly crashed his semi-truck on Sunday in Sevier County while traveling on Interstate 70 near milepost 70.

Police say the semi hit a rock that was in the lane, which caused the vehicle to tip onto the driver's side and come to rest on the right shoulder.

"While on the scene the driver seemed difficult and unsettled. He refused to sit inside my patrol car with the heater and did not want to sit down despite stating that he was injured and had pain in his leg," the affidavit states.

Ellsworth reportedly tried to look for his phone, but the officer asked him not to walk around until his injuries could be addresses. Ellsworth then asked the trooper to look for his phone.

The phone was not located by the trooper, but Ellsworth said it had fallen under the semi's driver door.

As Ellsworth was transported to the Sevier Valley Hospital for minor injuries, the tow truck arrived at the scene to move the semi.

A short time later, a tow truck driver told the trooper that he had found the driver's phone under the driver's side door--right where the driver said it would be.

The tow truck driver showed the officer the phone's screen, saying the officer needed to look at "this."

"The phone was open to the gallery and a large number of small pictures were displayed on the screen. All of these pictures appeared to be pornography and some contained nude children with adults performing sexual acts to them," the affidavit states.

The tow truck driver said when he tried to wipe off the oil that had been on the phone, he pushed the power button and the screen automatically popped up to the gallery of child pornography.

After being treated at the hospital, Ellsworth was transported to the Sevier County Jail.

Individuals charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
