Thursday marks the beginning of the "biggest week of golf in Utah” with the 28th Annual Utah Championship.

The golf tournament runs through Sunday and features Utah natives Danny Summerhays, Zac Blair and Preston Summerhays, who are scheduled to compete with top players on the money list.

Utah Championship is one of the longest running stops on the PGA Tour and is hosted by the Oakridge Country Club in Farmington. Also, new branding is going to be on site of the PGA Tour's newest sponsor, Korn Ferry.

The four-day tournament - presented by Zions Bank and hosted by the Utah Sports Commission - showcases world-class golfers competing for a $725,000 prize purse. This year’s champion will be awarded $130,500.

Utah Championship organizers earlier announced this year’s three unrestricted sponsor exemptions for the 2019 tournament.

Earning the exemptions are Taylor Montgomery, Will Gordon and Preston Summerhays. These players will join the field of 156 golfers competing for the $725,000 prize purse and a shot at a PGA TOUR card.

All 50 PGA TOUR cards will go to players competing on the Tour and will be awarded based on season-long results as well as the performance at the year ending championships, a news release stated.

Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission, said in a prepared statement:

This tournament showcases so many amazing golfers working toward their ultimate career goals that include receiving these highly-coveted exemptions. As a partner of the PGA TOUR and the newly announced Korn Ferry Tour, and as host of the Utah Championship, the Utah Sports Commission is thrilled to award these talented athletes an exemption to Utah’s only PGA TOUR event.

According to a news release, the Utah Championship presented the Tony Finau Foundation with a $40,000 donation from a portion of the proceeds of last year’s event.

To date, the Tony Finau Foundation has raised nearly $500,000, providing thousands of underprivileged children and their families with financial support, increased access to academic and recreational resources, family-centered experiences, and a connection to a professional athlete whose personal background mirrors their own.

In 2018, the tournament also donated $25,000 to the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

In addition to the tournament, a kid's clinic is offered and features golf instruction from touring pros, Each participating child receives a free golf club courtesy of the PGA Section (while supplies last). The Kid's Clinic is Saturday at 4: 00 p.m. It is free for children.
