More than 100 Utahns gathered Tuesday to call on Sens. Mike Lee and Mitt Romney to push for an "fair impeachment trial" for President Donald Trump.

The demonstrators from a variety of progressive groups gathered in Salt Lake City, as hundreds of other activists rallied across the country.

The groups called on the Utah senators to push for clear evidence of impeachable offenses against Trump and support witness testimony during the trial.

Many of the demonstrators held signs that read "Sen. Romney: Don't let Trump off the hook. #Fairtrial"

"The Senate GOP must hear Americans loud and clear: We demand and deserve a fair impeachment trial," Carolyn Fiddler, communications director for Daily Kos, stated in a press release.

"The American people are taking action because they know what is at stake if the U.S. Senate goes through with a sham trial,” Christine Wood, democracy organizer for Public Citizen’s Democracy Is For People Campaign stated in a press release.

Our country was founded on the notion that nobody is above the law. Moving forward with a trial that blocks witnesses from testifying aids in an effort to cover up the President's crimes and sets a dangerous precedent for years to come.

Groups represented at the Utah rallies included Move On, Vote Common Good and Mormon women for Ethical Government.
