A local football organization is hoping to bring a professional football team to Utah.

The Salt Lake City Senate Football Team announced that they're looking to start a Northern Utah Professional Alliance that will "work closely" with the Utah Jazz, Salt Lake City Bees, Real Salt Lake, Grizzlies, local universities, high schools and more to bring either an XFL or NFL team to the Beehive State.

The organization said they're currently operating as a team that plays in the Gridiron Developmental Football League (GDFL).

The team is said to have former college, NFL and XFL players as both coaches and players.

Cache Valley native Jared Van Yperen owns the current team.

According to a press release from the organization, Yperen wants " to provide Utah with not only a professional sports team but also to prove that Northern Utah is big enough for major leagues to not only be profitable in Utah."

The team just completed their first season with a 7-1 winning record.
