A Snow College football player has died following a single-vehicle crash in Ephraim, Utah.
Ephraim City Police confirmed the death of the student-athlete early Monday morning in a news release.
Snow College officials confirmed the player killed was offensive lineman Mafatini Taimane-Laititi Mafatini from Maui, Hawaii.
The school said Mafatini passed away after sustaining injuries in the crash that happened during the evening hours of Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021 on 100 North in Ephraim.
Mafatini joined Snow College as a freshman this season.
“We are extremely saddened by the news of Mafitini’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family back in Maui. Mafitini was such a bright light in this world. His smile and infectious laugh will be missed not only by our team, but by all those who knew him. Again, we give our love and prayers for his family and for all those that were involved in this terrible accident," Snow College Head Football Coach Zac Erekson said.
Snow College President Bradley Cook thanked everyone involved in the investigation and life-saving efforts.
“Badger Football is a family, and we all are experiencing grief today. We will work together and take care of one another," Athletic Director Rob Nielson said.
School leaders and students have planned to gather in memory of Mafatini tonight at 8 p.m. on the Robbert Stoddard Football Field.
Items have been placed at the entrance to the Terry Foote Stadium in his honor.
