A 16-year-old has been arrested after police said he was responsible for damage at a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Syracuse Fire Department responded to the church at 1112 South 1525 West at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning.
When fire crews entered the building, they said they found it filled with smoke and discovered the sprinkler system had extinguished a fire.
Crews said there was extensive water and property damage throughout the building caused by the fire.
The church was also vandalized with graffiti and included profanities and phallic drawings.
Investigators are working to investigate the arson and vandalism, they said.
The male teen was booked into a juvenile detention facility after he was arrested at around 2 p.m. Saturday, police said.
